FOSCHI, PIER FRANCESCO DI JACOPO
PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MAN
Traditionally this work was thought to be one by Francesco de' Rossi, known as Salviati; A.Pinelli attributed it to Fosca. It belongs to the late period of the artist's work. The Portrait of a Youth from the Carrara Academy in Bergamo, which, at one time, was considered to be a depiction of Baccio Bandinelli, provides a close parallel. It is possible that the same face has been painted in the Pushkin Museum portrait.
Provenance: donated by V.N.Isakov (Moscow) to the Rumyantsev Museum in 1913; in the Pushkin Museum since 1924
