When in the collection of the Duke of Leuchtenberg this picture, now in the Pushkin Museum, was held to be the work of Giorgione; Cavalcaselle published it as a late variant of a composition by Licinio from the Sciarra collection in Rome (later in the Lazzaroni collection). The level of artistic execution in the Pushkin Museum's picture is, however, higher than that of the variant mentioned above.

Provenance: in the collection of the Dukes of Leuchtenberg (St. Petersburg – Petrograd) until 1918; in the State Museums Foundation in 1918-1919; in the Rumyantsev Museum after 1920; in the Pushkin Museum since 1924.
