MADONNA AND CHILD WITH SAINTS (HOLY CONVERSATION)

The left part of the picture with the depiction of St. Jerome and St. Anthony of Padua has been distorted by over-painting. In the collection of the British Museum in London there is a drawing depicting a scene of the Sacra Conversazione (Holy Conversation) with a similar composition. Despite a number of differences in the detail, it is without doubt a preliminary sketch for the picture in the Pushkin Museum.

Provenance: acquired for the Hermitage from the Croz collection (Paris) in 1772; in the Pushkin Museum since 1924.
