FINDING OF MOSES

In the past this picture was held to be the work of an anonymous Venetian painter of the 18th century and later attributed to the Piazzetta circle. B.P.Vipper suggested it had been the work of Piazzetta's pupil, Vincenzo Capella, A. Morassi identified Crosato as the artist and the work was published for the first time by R. Pallucchini. The picture in the Pushkin Museum is of considerable interest as a first-class example of that artist's work, whose finest creations are now held in the main outside Venice.

Provenance: in the collection of L.K.Zubalov (Moscow); acquired by the Pushkin Museum from the State Museums Foundation in 1925.
