SEMIRAMIS CALLED TO ARMS

Signature and date bottom left of sheet: Luca da Reggio F.t 1652.

The subject of this picture was at one time given as The Death of Sofonisba although in the Hermitage Inventory of 1859 it is correctly designated.

Provenance: acquired by Empress Catherine II from the banker Paolo Madruzzi in 1767; presented to Count Grigorii Orlov for the decoration of Gatchino Palace in 1772; transferred from Gatchino Palace to the Hermitage in 1923; in the Pushkin Museum since 1924.
