Before it was acquired by the Pushkin Museum, this painting was held to be the work of an unknown master. Its eventual attribution was the work of this catalogue's author. The execution of the painting from the Pushkin Museum collection stands out on account of the subtle shifts of light and shade and the range of colours used: In this respect it is closer to works by Nogari executed in pastels. It would seem that there had originally been a work which formed a pair with this one and would have been perfectly in keeping with the traditions of Piazzetta's workshop and the artists of his circle.

Provenance: Acquired in 1985 from N.D.Moiseyeva (Moscow).
