Under the fresh impression of Cézanne's works the artist turned to the traditions of the masters from the Italian Quatrocento, expressing their ideas in a series of compositions depicting figures of nude models in his workshop. The picture can be dated to c. 1925.
Provenance: acquired by the State Museum of New Western Art from Italy in exchange for works by Soviet artists in 1933; in the Pushkin Museum since 1948.
