PORTRAIT OF A MAN WITH RED BERET AND BOOK
In the Shchukin collection this portrait was considered to be the work of Cima da Conegliano, but was later assigned to Marco Basaiti. This attribution was supported by F. Heinemann, who dated it to 1503.
Provenance: in the collection of the Princes Kochubei (on their estate in the South of Russia): acquired from D.A.Postnikov (Moscow) by D.I.Shchukin in 1890; in the Museum of Old Western Painting in Moscow from 1918; in the Pushkin Museum since 1924.
