In this work from the Pushkin Museum's collection dating from the early period of the painter's work features from the Late Gothic style are already clearly to be seen. Lorenzo Monaco was to become, over the course of time, one of its leading representatives in Florence.
Provenance: according to archive documents of D.A.Khomyakov, the work came from the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence (no confirmation of this has been found); in the 1880s it was acquired in Italy by Khomyakov, who donated it to the Rumyantsev Museum (in Moscow); in the Pushkin Museum since 1924.
