THE CRUCIFIXION
Signature in the lower part of the Cross: HOC O[PU]S PI/NXIT SEGNA/SENENSIS. The edges of the work have been sawn off on all sides. Some parts of it and fragments of the painting have been lost. Signed in the name of Segna di Bonaventura, the closest of Duccio's pupils. The Crucifixion is a rare work of Sienese painting dating from the first quarter of the 14th century.
Provenance: acquired in Italy in the first decade of the 20th century by M.S.Shchokin, who donated it to the Pushkin Museum in 1909.
