VENETIAN, LATE XIII - EARLY XIV CENTURY
In the past this had been part of an altarpiece. Episodes linked with the Humiliation and Mockery of Christ were only briefly described by the authors of the New Testament. The first took place after Christ had been arrested in Jerusalem, when he was standing before the High Priest, Caiaphas, and subjected to humiliation.
Provenance: acquired in Italy during the first decade of the 20th century by M.S.Shchokin and donated by him in 1909 to the Pushkin Museum.
